Changing your dogs food to a non-commercial (meaning you can't get it at WalMart or the grocery store) or raw-food diet will make the world of difference and her skin irritation will probably clear up in a few weeks.

If she had red mange it can come back since it is in the blood and not just a typical mite. I would treat her with the Happy jack sarcoptic mange medicine b4 I took her to the vet, but if it doesn't get better, take her to the vet. Also, if she is an outside dog, spray the area for flies, fleas, ticks, and other biting insects.

Mange is caused by a very small mite,almost spiderlike in apperance. They infect the dog, so you have to have an antibiotic to kill it. See your vet about it.

Back in the old days they would smear bacon grease all over the dog to smother the mites. Motor oil was also used.

As you learned from the previous answers it is a mite that causes this condition. But all dogs carry this mite %26amp; only the dogs with low or slow immune systems are affected by it.

One thing you may try (try) is some apple cider vinegar all over him. Don't use it straight, dilute about 1/2 %26amp; 1/2. I have a Chow X with a blueish redish color %26amp; I thought his lose of hair was due to his coat color. I applied the apple cider vinegar %26amp; his bald spots are all filled in now. He had some massive areas on his side completely void of hair %26amp; now he has a full coat. It has taken 3 months to grow the hair but he is not bald in big splatches.

May not be the same thing but it is worth a try.
