Is it normal for a long haired chihuahua to lose her hair?

My dad has a long haired chihuahua,she is almost 3 years old. She has started losing hair on her two hind legs and on her butt. I thought it might be from her constantly sitting up on her two hind legs(she waits for my dad at the door when ever he leaves and she always sits on her hind legs until he returns). But now she's losing hair on her lower back as well is this normal?

It sounds like it may be something best answered by a vet. It does not sound reasonable that the dog should just lose its hair unless it is scratching the area due to parasites, infection, etc., or it is falling out for other medically treatable reasons - I would suggest for the dogs sake that it be taken and medically evaluated. maybe, my 5 dogs have really weak and thin hair, and they're chihuahuas, but 3 of them are puppies and they lose hairs just like their parents. my male puppy is balding from his butt and lower back, so maybe its just from scratching or its normal. just ask your vet.

chihuahua's to shed . I know because i have one my self but i have never seen one to that except my grandmothers and that was chewing on his hip-so much we took it to the vet and he gave us some medicines for him and it healed up in a couple of weeks.
