some hair loss is fine, hair always comes out. but too much hair loss isn't good. you could try to prevent it by staying away from heat products and relaxers. Make sure you use a conditioner/ a moisturizing hair mask to keep your hair strong and moist and prevent breakage.

It's natural for hair to shed some but if your hair is coming out in small or large clumps when you comb/brush or wash it, you should go to a dermatologist and find out whats going on.

On the other hand, if you've determined that your hair sheds or breaks off when it's dry, then you have to combat dry hair. First, start from within. Drink plenty of water and eat a well balanced diet. Next, find a shampoo that doesn't contain Sodium Lauryl Sufate or Sodium Laureth Sulfate, it's very drying. In fact, read 10 INGREDIENTS TO AVOID PUTTING ON YOUR HAIR! at Nappurality.com.

I'm happy to read that you're staying away from relaxers and straighteners they are the worst for Black hair.

You didn't say how you style your hair but if it's possible, carry a small mist bottle with distilled water and a few drops of essential oils (lavender, rosemary, and/or tea tree oil) and mist your hair a few times during the day.
